Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Israel has accepted a Qatar-backed proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza tied to a partial hostage release. Trump urged Hamas to agree, warning on Truth Social, “It will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

The agreement follows Trump’s recent mediation of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. His envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Israeli Minister Ron Dermer Tuesday, confirming Israel’s approval to enter indirect talks with Hamas.

The proposal would allow all parties to work toward ending the war and planning Gaza’s post-conflict governance. Israel demands Hamas’ removal, the dismantling of its military, and leadership exile. Hamas, however, has sought U.S. guarantees that the 60-day truce will become permanent.

Qatar and Egypt will now present the final deal to Hamas. Meanwhile, Israeli forces ordered evacuations in parts of Gaza City, signaling a potential offensive if negotiations stall. “We’ll do to Gaza City what we did to Rafah,” warned a senior Israeli official. “Everything will turn to dust.”
