Lawyers Boris Epshteyn and Jenna Ellis, along with former U.S. Senate candidate James Lamon, pleaded not guilty to nine felony charges related to efforts to overturn former President Donald Trump’s Arizona election loss to Joe Biden.
Their arraignment in Phoenix marked the conclusion of 18 arraignments in the fake elector case. Other notable figures, including Rudy Giuliani and former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, also pleaded not guilty.
Epshteyn is accused of assisting Giuliani in submitting fake electors for Trump in Arizona and obstructing Congress’s certification of the election results on Jan. 6, 2021. Arizona authorities charged 11 Republicans, five Trump-associated lawyers, and two former Trump aides in April. Trump, referred to as an unindicted co-conspirator, was not charged.
Ellis allegedly made false claims of election fraud in Arizona and six other states, encouraging the Arizona Legislature to change the election outcome and then-Vice President Mike Pence to accept Arizona’s fake elector votes. Lamon is accused of falsely claiming to be a duly elected elector.
The trials for Epshteyn, Ellis, and Lamon are set for Nov. 14.
