The Trump administration has begun using military aircraft to deport individuals who entered the U.S. illegally, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. She shared images on X showing handcuffed individuals boarding military planes, stating, “Deportation flights have begun. President Trump is sending a strong and clear message.”
The flights follow an executive order signed by Trump this week, but immigration advocates criticized the administration, noting deportation flights were already common under Biden. Aaron Reichlin-Melnick of the American Immigration Council said, “They’re lying to you. The Biden administration had already ramped up deportations.”
Since returning to office, Trump has signed multiple executive actions to curb migration, including increasing border security and authorizing arrests in sensitive locations. ICE reported 538 arrests and 373 detainers this week, though critics argue these numbers are similar to previous operations.
Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) accused ICE of conducting unconstitutional raids without warrants.
