The Trump administration plans to withdraw approximately $510 million in federal funding from Brown University, a White House official confirmed Thursday. Brown is among five Ivy League institutions recently targeted for federal funding reviews, along with Princeton, Columbia, Harvard, and the University of Pennsylvania.

The action comes amid ongoing investigations into more than 60 colleges and universities for alleged antisemitic harassment and discrimination.

In response, Brown Provost Frank Doyle emailed campus academic leaders Thursday afternoon, acknowledging “troubling rumors” about potential federal actions affecting university research grants. Doyle stated, “At this moment, we have no information to substantiate any of these rumors.”

A university spokesperson echoed that position Thursday evening, saying Brown had not received confirmation of the reported funding cut.

The U.S. Department of Education and other federal agencies have not issued formal statements regarding the status of the funds or findings from the investigation.
