The Trump administration announced Tuesday it will launch TrumpRx.com, a government-backed online platform to connect Americans with lower-priced prescription drugs. The move follows President Donald Trump’s “Most Favored Nation” (MFN) executive order, which required drugmakers to establish direct-to-consumer programs bypassing middlemen.

Chris Klomp, deputy administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said the platform will provide medicines “often at full MFN, and always at lower prices than currently available,” claiming reductions as steep as 80 percent in some cases.

A senior official emphasized that the government will not distribute drugs itself, but instead create a centralized site to guide patients to manufacturers’ direct-sale programs. The website is expected to launch early next year.

Questions remain about whether patients can use insurance for purchases, with officials avoiding a clear answer. The announcement came one day after PhRMA, the pharmaceutical industry’s major trade group, unveiled its own platform, AmericasMedicines.com, which aggregates drugmakers’ consumer programs.

The administration argues TrumpRx.com will boost transparency and competition, though details on its construction and operations are still being finalized.
