The Trump administration informed U.S. District Judge James Boasberg on Monday that it will not provide additional information about deportation flights carrying Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador, invoking the state secrets privilege. Officials argue that disclosure would endanger national security and international relations.

In a court filing, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Justice Department officials claimed the court already has sufficient information to assess whether the administration violated Boasberg’s earlier order blocking the deportations. “Further intrusions on the executive branch would present dangerous and wholly unwarranted separation-of-powers harms,” the DOJ stated.

The filing included declarations from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, asserting that further transparency could damage diplomatic ties.

Boasberg, an Obama appointee and chief judge of the D.C. district court, has spent over a week seeking clarity on whether the Trump administration defied his 14-day deportation block issued after the president invoked the Alien Enemies Act. Two flights departed before the written order was filed, prompting legal and constitutional questions.

Trump and allies have since called for Boasberg’s impeachment.
