The Trump administration announced Friday that it is revoking $400 million in federal grants and contracts from Columbia University, citing the school’s alleged failure to address antisemitic harassment.

Columbia was a major hub for student protests against the Israel-Hamas war, and earlier this week, Trump threatened to defund colleges allowing “illegal protests.” The move is part of a broader crackdown, including the State Department’s plan to use AI to revoke visas of foreign nationals deemed “pro-Hamas.”

Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated that Jewish students have faced relentless harassment since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, accusing Columbia of failing to uphold anti-discrimination laws. The Department of Education warned that additional funding cuts may follow.

Columbia has not responded directly to the allegations but said it is reviewing the decision and pledges to work with the federal government to restore funding.

This marks the first major federal funding withdrawal from a university over its handling of campus protests.
