The Trump administration is importing hundreds of millions of eggs from Turkey and South Korea to stabilize U.S. egg prices following recent supply disruptions caused by avian flu. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed the imports Friday and noted that other countries may soon join the effort.
Rollins said the move is “significant enough to help continue to bring the prices down” as the U.S. works to rebuild its domestic egg-laying flocks. The avian flu outbreak led to the culling of millions of chickens, triggering egg shortages and price spikes.
The Department of Agriculture has projected egg prices could rise by 41% in 2025. Rollins indicated the imports are a short-term solution and that once domestic production recovers, the U.S. will return to relying on its own supply.
The administration continues to negotiate with additional countries for future egg shipments, though no further agreements have been finalized.
