The U.S. State Department reissued a dire travel advisory for Venezuela on Monday, warning Americans to leave the country immediately or prepare a will if planning to travel there.

The advisory cites wrongful detention, torture, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary law enforcement, civil unrest, and poor healthcare as reasons for the heightened warning. U.S. citizens and permanent residents currently in Venezuela were “strongly advised to depart immediately” without expecting government assistance.

The alert follows the Trump administration’s decision to end temporary deportation protections for roughly 300,000 Venezuelans living in the U.S. and deport planeloads of migrants back to Venezuela. Legal challenges to those deportations are ongoing.

“If you decide to travel to Venezuela… prepare a will and designate insurance beneficiaries,” the State Department advised. The move comes amid years of political upheaval and economic collapse under Nicolás Maduro’s regime, prompting mass migration to the U.S.

The U.S. has also issued high-level travel warnings for several other Latin American countries, including six “do not travel” advisories in Mexico.

Thanks for the article.

My note to the White House looks like:

I was reviewing the State Department Travel Advisories and see that
Valenzuela was recently updated to Level 4: Do Not Travel.

Reasons include

wrongful detention,

kidnapping,

arbitrary law enforcement,

poor healthcare

among other reasons.

Damn if that doesn\’t sound a lot like America under the Trump
administration. It would suck to be a Venezuelan national in this
country and have to face going back to Venezuela.

Do you think Trump will let the 300,000 Venezuelans about to be deported
update their wills before they\’re thrown out of the country?
