President Donald Trump acknowledged “real starvation” in Gaza on Monday, contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and signaling a shift in tone amid growing criticism of Israel’s handling of the humanitarian crisis.
“I mean, based on television, I would say not particularly because those children look very hungry,” Trump said when asked if he agreed with Netanyahu’s claim that no starvation was occurring. Standing beside U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland, Trump added the U.S. would help set up “food centers” in Gaza with European partners.
While Trump continues to support Israel’s right to defend itself, the war’s impact on civilians in Gaza — especially after the rise of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation — has drawn bipartisan criticism. Senate Democrats urged Trump to pressure Israel to return to a UN-led aid model, citing reports of injuries and deaths near chaotic distribution points.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also condemned the humanitarian situation, writing, “What has been happening to innocent people and children in Gaza is horrific.”
The Israeli military announced new airdrops and humanitarian corridors this weekend, while UN officials warned of “catastrophic hunger.”
