President Donald Trump on Sunday called protesters who disrupted a recent town hall held by Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) “Radical Left Lunatics” and claimed they were paid agitators. In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Edwards for handling the situation with “total gentleman” composure during the contentious event in Asheville.

“They were largely paid agitators, with fake signs and slogans, and were only there to make TROUBLE!” Trump wrote, offering no evidence to support the claim. Asheville, a liberal-leaning city, frequently draws opposition at Republican events.

Edwards was confronted by demonstrators angry over his support for Trump and budget cuts associated with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency. Despite being booed, Edwards said he stood his ground and would “certainly do it again.”

House GOP leaders had warned members that coordinated protests might target in-person town halls and encouraged virtual alternatives. Edwards chose to meet constituents face-to-face, saying it showed Republican resilience.

Trump also used the post to criticize Democrats and tout his administration’s accomplishments since returning to office in January.
