Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz condemned Donald Trump’s recent comments about using the U.S. military to combat “the enemy from within,” calling the former president’s rhetoric “pretty damn un-American.” In an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, Trump described radical leftists as a serious threat, suggesting that they could be handled by the National Guard or military if necessary.
At a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Walz, also the governor of Minnesota and commander of its National Guard, expressed deep concern about Trump’s words. “He’s talking about you,” Walz told the crowd, accusing Trump of labeling political opponents as enemies. Walz, a military veteran, said the idea of using military force against American citizens made him “sick to my stomach” and suggested Trump’s comments were a “call for violence.”
Several former Trump officials have also voiced concern over his potential return to power. Former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley called Trump “the most dangerous person to this country” in a new book, while former Defense Secretary Mark Esper told CNN that Trump’s rhetoric should be taken seriously, warning of possible retribution against political rivals.
