Climate activist Greta Thunberg responded sharply after Donald Trump labeled her “a strange person” and said she needed “anger management” following her attempt to deliver aid to Gaza.
On Monday, Israel intercepted a boat in international waters carrying Thunberg and other activists aiming to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza amid the ongoing conflict. Thunberg was detained and deported. At the Paris airport Tuesday, she addressed Trump’s comments: “I think the world needs a lot more young angry women, to be honest, especially with everything going on right now.”
Trump had earlier questioned Thunberg’s emotional state, saying, “I don’t know if it’s real anger… but I saw what happened. Anger management, I think she has to go to an anger management class.”
This is not the first time Trump has publicly targeted Thunberg. Their long-running feud includes past dismissals of her environmental activism and mocking her after she was named TIME’s Person of the Year in 2019.
Thunberg’s voyage was part of an effort by international activists to highlight conditions in Gaza, which has suffered major infrastructure damage in the war against Hamas.
