Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Friday criticized fellow Republicans for staying silent after Tucker Carlson hosted white supremacist Nick Fuentes on his podcast, calling the failure to condemn him “cowardly.” Speaking at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention in Washington, Cruz said Carlson “spread a poison that is profoundly dangerous” and warned that fear of Carlson’s audience has muted GOP voices.
Cruz, who has described himself as a “Christian Zionist,” previously condemned Carlson and Fuentes during the Republican Jewish Coalition’s recent summit, saying he has seen “more antisemitism on the right” in the last six months than ever before. He argued that refusing to reject Fuentes’s statements—such as claims about “organized Jewry”—was complicity in antisemitism.
Cruz also clarified that Carlson’s fault was not hosting Fuentes but failing to challenge his remarks. Carlson has not responded to the criticism.
