The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal of her 2021 conviction for helping Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. Maxwell had argued that Epstein’s 2007 Florida plea deal, which granted immunity to him and his co-conspirators from federal prosecution, should also have applied to her New York case.

The Justice Department countered that the agreement was limited to Florida and did not extend to crimes committed in New York. The court’s refusal leaves Maxwell’s 20-year prison sentence intact. She is currently serving her sentence at a lower-security federal facility in Texas.

Maxwell’s attorneys accused prosecutors of violating the spirit of the 2007 deal, arguing the government was “rewriting its promises” and relying on unrelated misconduct by Epstein to distract from legal inconsistencies.

With the Supreme Court’s decision, Maxwell has exhausted her major appeal options, solidifying her conviction for sex trafficking and conspiracy.
