The Supreme Court rejected Peter Navarro’s appeal regarding his use of an unofficial email account to store presidential records, following lower court rulings that the records must be turned over to the National Archives. Navarro argues the Presidential Records Act doesn’t authorize federal searches of private email accounts. He plans further appeals.
Navarro, who served as Trump’s trade adviser during his first term, recently completed a four-month prison sentence for contempt of Congress charges related to the January 6 investigation. He claims executive privilege prevented his cooperation with the House committee.
Navarro, named senior counselor for trade in Trump’s anticipated second term, continues to appeal his conviction. Similarly, former White House adviser Steve Bannon also served time for contempt of Congress.
