The Supreme Court sided with the Trump administration, granting an emergency ruling that temporarily upholds a $2 billion freeze on federal foreign aid. Chief Justice John Roberts issued the ruling, allowing time for further review while the court decides the case.
On his first day in office, President Trump ordered a 90-day hold on foreign aid spending, triggering lawsuits. Court filings revealed the administration has cut over 90% of USAID contracts, slashing $60 billion in global assistance. USAID has already fired 1,600 employees, many of whom were given just 15 minutes to clear out their offices.
Trump’s cost-cutting drive, led by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is now affecting multiple agencies. The IRS is closing over 110 offices after firing 7,000 employees, while the EPA is cutting its budget by 65%. The Social Security Administration has been told to reduce its workforce by half.
Additionally, every agency must appoint a “Mini-Musk” representative to oversee downsizing, and employees who ignored Musk’s email requesting work summaries are at risk of termination.
