Former White House adviser Steve Bannon warned that Tuesday’s Democratic victories signal serious trouble for Republicans heading into the 2026 midterms. “The midterms start tonight, and the warning signs are flashing,” Bannon said on his “War Room” podcast, referencing key Democratic wins across several states.

Democrats Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard defeated longtime GOP incumbents for Georgia Public Service Commission seats — the first Democratic wins in those races since 2000, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Bannon said the results were “a warning that this thing is going to cut deeper.”

Speaking later to Politico, Bannon highlighted New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory as evidence of a “progressive left wave” powered by younger voters and immigrant communities. He urged Republicans to “take these people seriously” and prepare for a major ideological battle.

Bannon said the economy would dominate the 2026 midterms and called on Republicans to “put American citizens first.” He also suggested that President Donald Trump consider legal action over California’s Proposition 50 and investigate Mamdani’s citizenship.

Trump, meanwhile, attributed Republican losses to the ongoing government shutdown, now in its 36th day.
