Six people have been accused of participating in an illegal straw donor arrangement to support the mayoral campaign of Eric Adams. However, it’s worth noting that the indictment doesn’t implicate Adams or any other city officials.
The scheme revolved around diverting public funds into the campaign through the use of straw donors, with the orchestrator being identified as Dwayne Montgomery. Montgomery, currently the director of integrity for the Teamsters Local 237, allegedly recruited his acquaintances and family members to make donations to take advantage of the city’s matching funds system. He then reimbursed them with his own money.
