At least six senior FBI officials have been told to leave or be fired by Monday, according to multiple reports. The move follows FBI Director Christopher Wray’s resignation and the confirmation hearing of his potential replacement, Kash Patel. Many of the officials were promoted by Wray.
The affected officials are reportedly at the executive assistant director or special agent in charge level. The shake-up is part of broader federal government changes as Biden-era officials are removed. Trump also fired 18 inspectors general last week, drawing bipartisan concern.
During his confirmation hearing, Patel denied plans to retaliate against FBI personnel involved in Trump investigations, stating all employees would be held to the same standard.
