Democratic Senators Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) and Mark Warner (Va.) called on major tech companies to take stronger measures against election disinformation in a letter to the heads of Meta, X, Discord, Twitch, and Alphabet. The senators expressed concerns over viral disinformation and urged “bolstering content moderation resources” to prevent misleading content from influencing voters or inciting violence.

They highlighted the growing challenge posed by AI-generated content, making it difficult for voters to distinguish between real and fake information. The letter also cited recent Justice Department actions against Russian interference efforts and questioned how platforms are preparing for the upcoming election.

Meta recently announced a ban on Russian state media outlets for foreign interference, while the senators pressed tech firms to outline their actions to combat disinformation, with a response requested by October 1.
