In a Fox News interview, Senator Marco Rubio defended former President Donald Trump against accusations by Trump’s former Chief of Staff John Kelly and former military advisor Mark Milley, who have labeled Trump a “fascist.” When asked by Fox News host Shannon Bream if he believes the two former generals are lying, Rubio responded, “Yes, I do,” calling the timing of these claims suspicious given the election.
Kelly, Trump’s longest-serving Chief of Staff, recently told The New York Times that Trump fit the description of a fascist and allegedly praised Hitler. Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung dismissed Kelly’s accounts as “debunked stories.” Milley, who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also labeled Trump a fascist in comments included in Bob Woodward’s book, War. Cheung countered Milley’s claims as misinformation, labeling him a “woke train-wreck.”
Rubio speculated that Kelly and Milley made these statements to advance their careers post-administration, questioning why they stayed if they believed Trump was a fascist. Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham defended Trump on ABC News, stating, “He’s not a fascist… He was a strong leader on the things that matter most.”
