Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) criticized President Trump’s remarks linking diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring to the fatal plane crash near Washington, D.C., calling them “stomach-turning” and “damaging.” Speaking on CNN, Kaine condemned Trump for politicizing the tragedy, saying, “Imagine you’ve just lost a loved one, and you hear the president blaming people for political reasons.”
Trump suggested DEI policies at the FAA may have contributed to the crash, pointing to past efforts to increase workforce diversity. He claimed, “Brilliant people have to be in those positions.”
Kaine also questioned Trump’s decision to eliminate the aviation safety advisory board, calling it contradictory to national security. Trump has aggressively moved to dismantle DEI programs across the federal government since taking office.
