On Thursday, the U.S. Senate voted unanimously to establish October 14, 2025, as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk, marking what would have been his 32nd birthday. The move follows his death on September 10, when he was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University.
Sen. Rick Scott of Florida praised Kirk’s dedication to faith, civic dialogue, and his impact on young Americans. “Charlie was a good man — a devout husband, father, and friend,” Scott said, adding that Kirk inspired students nationwide to engage in respectful debate.
In the House, Congressman Jimmy Patronis introduced a similar resolution, supported by Speaker Mike Johnson. Johnson said the effort honors Kirk’s memory and denounces the political violence that led to his assassination. “The best way to honor the work and legacy of Charlie Kirk is to advance the principles that he advanced,” Johnson said.
Authorities charged Tyler Robinson, 22, with aggravated murder and related offenses, including witness tampering, after he allegedly urged his partner to delete messages tied to the case. Prosecutors noted Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted.
The resolutions seek to preserve Kirk’s legacy in civic education while also highlighting broader concerns about violence in American political life.
