The Senate confirmed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) in a 52-48 vote Thursday. He will be sworn in later today.
Every Republican voted in favor except former Leader Mitch McConnell, who joined Democrats in opposing one of President Donald Trump’s nominees for the third time.
Kennedy, who previously ended his own presidential bid to endorse Trump, has been critical of the healthcare industry and food manufacturers. He argues their influence has led to expensive drugs and unhealthy food, contributing to chronic disease.
Democrats opposed Kennedy’s nomination, citing his history of criticizing widely accepted vaccines, calling him a dangerous choice to lead HHS.
