Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a potential vice-presidential candidate for Donald Trump, declined to criticize Trump’s allegations about the 2022 FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago property. Trump claimed in a fundraising email that the FBI, under President Joe Biden’s direction, was ready to use deadly force during the raid. He suggested that the standard language in the search warrant, authorizing deadly force if necessary, was twisted to intimidate him.

Attorney General Merrick Garland called Trump’s claims “extremely dangerous,” noting that the same standard operations plan was used when the FBI searched Biden’s home. Despite this, in a CNN interview, Scott sided with Trump, expressing skepticism towards Garland and implying a “two-tiered justice system” favoring Biden.

When asked about Trump’s comments, Scott diverted the conversation to student protests over the Gaza war, expressing concern over violence against Jewish students. Scott, a former 2024 GOP presidential nominee, is reportedly a top contender for Trump’s running mate in the upcoming election.

Lastly, federal prosecutors requested a gag order on Trump, citing his words as endangering law enforcement officers and threatening the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
