Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W.V.) is contemplating a run against Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination. A source confirmed Manchin might re-register as a Democrat to seek the nomination.

Initially, Manchin considered a primary bid against President Biden but ultimately decided against it. He also chose not to seek another full term in the Senate, with West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) expected to replace him next year.

Manchin switched his party registration to independent in May to keep his political options open. He recently became the fifth senator to urge Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, stating on CNN’s “State of the Union” that it’s time to “pass the torch to a new generation.”

Manchin called for an open process to select a replacement, suggesting Govs. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.) and Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.) as top picks.
