During a “Believers and Ballots” event in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) labeled Vice President Kamala Harris as “the biggest threat to religious liberty we’ve had in at least a generation.” He criticized the Biden-Harris administration for policies he claims infringe on individual freedoms, particularly citing COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
Vance highlighted the administration’s vaccine requirements for federal workers and its attempted mandate for private employers, which was largely blocked by the Supreme Court. He argued these policies threatened freedom of conscience and religious liberty.
Vance’s comments came amid Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks and ongoing efforts to secure North Carolina for Republicans in the 2024 election. North Carolina remains a key battleground, with recent polls showing Trump narrowly leading Harris at 48.4% to 47.8%. However, GOP candidate Mark Robinson has complicated the party’s path with controversial statements of his own.
