Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) called for the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Saturday, citing his promotion of vaccine misinformation, lack of medical background, and deep workforce cuts at the CDC.

Speaking at a “SICK OF IT” rally outside NIH headquarters in Bethesda, Alsobrooks announced plans to file a Senate resolution demanding Kennedy’s removal.

“He is unqualified… He spread lies and conspiracy theories about safe and effective vaccines,” Alsobrooks said, pointing to a U.S. measles outbreak with over 1,000 cases. She accused Kennedy of using CDC budget cuts to fund tax breaks for billionaires rather than improving public health.

Appointed by President Trump, Kennedy has proposed cutting a quarter of HHS’s workforce, a move Alsobrooks decried as an attack on research and public trust. “This is not about efficiency. That is a bald-faced lie,” she said.

Kennedy has drawn criticism for long-standing views questioning vaccine safety and promoting alternative medicine. His appointment sparked bipartisan concern during his confirmation.

Alsobrooks, Maryland’s first Black U.S. senator, was elected in 2024 after defeating former Gov. Larry Logan (R).
