The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing approximately 2 million members across various service sectors, has committed $200 million to bolster President Biden’s reelection campaign. The union’s initiative aims to galvanize working-class voters of color in crucial battleground states to endorse pro-labor candidates, emphasizing Biden’s history of supporting labor movements and challenging major corporations.
SEIU’s efforts will focus on engaging 6 million voters of color in pivotal states, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. Strategies involve extensive field programs and collaborations with community organizations to motivate traditionally less active or new voters. The union, which endorsed Biden soon after his reelection campaign announcement, intends to highlight the contrasts between Biden’s pro-worker stance and Donald Trump’s corporate affiliations and policies perceived as detrimental to healthcare and reproductive rights.
The campaign also emphasizes multilingual outreach to ensure broad voter engagement. SEIU’s past initiatives have reportedly increased voter turnout by 27% among targeted groups, demonstrating the potential impact of their comprehensive approach. With a focus on unity across races and industries, the union is set to channel its collective power from labor movements to the electoral process, advocating for candidates who prioritize workers’ rights over corporate interests.
