Five secretaries of state have called on Elon Musk to address election misinformation spread by X’s AI chatbot, Grok. In a Monday letter, officials from Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Washington stated that Grok provided false ballot deadlines shortly after President Joe Biden exited the 2024 race.
The misinformation, shared widely on social media, mentioned states including Alabama, Indiana, Ohio, and Texas. Grok repeated these errors for 10 days before correction.
The officials urged Musk to ensure Grok directs users to accurate resources like CanIVote.org for election information. Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon emphasized the need for accurate voting details.
Grok, exclusive to X’s premium subscribers, was launched last year. Since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in 2022, concerns have risen over increased misinformation and reduced content moderation on the platform.
