Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer mocked the House-passed “big, beautiful bill” on Wednesday by calling it the “Well, We’re All Going to Die Act” during a press conference with Sens. Maggie Hassan and Ron Wyden. Schumer stood beside a sign bearing the phrase — a jab at Sen. Joni Ernst’s recent comments at a town hall in Iowa.

Schumer warned the legislation, endorsed by Donald Trump, includes massive tax breaks for the wealthy while gutting Medicaid and other safety net programs, potentially stripping coverage from up to 16 million Americans.

Ernst, defending the bill’s spending reforms, faced heckling from constituents over proposed cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. She replied, “Well, we’re all going to die,” drawing criticism and later clarifying her remark on Instagram as a misinterpreted “philosophical statement.”

The bill, now being debated in the Senate, continues to spark partisan controversy over its impact on federal benefits and deficit projections.
