Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Sunday he agrees with President Donald Trump on the need to curb illegal immigration and stop the flow of fentanyl into the U.S., calling for stronger borders and comprehensive immigration reform.

“I think cracking down on fentanyl, making sure our borders are stronger,” Sanders told ABC’s This Week. “Nobody thinks illegal immigration is appropriate.”

However, Sanders opposed Trump’s mass deportation plan targeting millions of undocumented immigrants. “He wants to deport 20 million people… Well, you do that, you destroy the entire country,” Sanders said, arguing that undocumented immigrants perform essential labor, particularly in agriculture and meatpacking.

Sanders, a vocal critic of the Trump administration and adviser Elon Musk, warned against immigration policies that would undermine the economy. “Trump’s billionaire friends are not going to pick the crops in California that feed us,” he said.

The remarks mark rare agreement between Sanders and Trump, though Sanders maintains strong opposition to the administration’s broader immigration agenda.
