Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and attorney for Donald Trump, had his law license permanently revoked by the D.C. Court of Appeals on Thursday. This decision follows a similar action taken by a New York court earlier this year, both stemming from Giuliani’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in Pennsylvania without factual support.
The D.C. court’s one-page order cited Giuliani’s failure to respond to an order regarding “reciprocal” disbarment after his New York suspension. Giuliani had been temporarily suspended in D.C. in July 2021. His spokesperson, Ted Goodman, criticized the ruling as “politically motivated.”
The disbarment process began with disciplinary investigations in both states, accusing Giuliani of making false statements during his legal challenges. A New York appellate panel found Giuliani guilty of repeatedly making false and sometimes perjurious claims that undermined the integrity of the 2020 election.
