Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that a negotiated settlement, requiring concessions from both Russia and Ukraine, is the only path to ending the war, emphasizing “there is no military solution.”

Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Rubio stressed that each side must give up some demands to achieve peace and save lives. His comments come as the Trump administration intensifies diplomatic efforts, including recent meetings between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Rome.

Zelensky described their meeting as “very symbolic” and expressed hope for a lasting ceasefire. Trump, meanwhile, voiced frustration over new Russian strikes on Kyiv and urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease attacks.

Rubio reiterated the urgency of ending the conflict, stating, “there are things Russia wants that it will not get, and there are things Ukraine wants that it will not get.”
