The Republican National Committee (RNC), under new co-chair Lara Trump, sent out a robocall falsely alleging “massive fraud” in the 2020 election. The call, sent 145,000 times in the first week of April, claimed that the absence of photo IDs, unsecured ballot drop boxes, mass mailing of ballots, and voter rolls filled with deceased people and non-citizens were examples of this fraud.
Democratic lawyer Marc Elias said this showed the Republican party to be “more committed to the big lie than ever.”
Despite losing the 2020 election conclusively to Joe Biden and being told by close aides that there was no widespread fraud, Donald Trump continued to propagate his fraud claim. The RNC did not consistently fundraise off Trump’s stolen election lie before its change of leadership.
On Friday, Trump and US House Speaker Mike Johnson are due to announce a bill meant to “elevate the issue of non-citizens voting in federal elections,” which is already illegal and nearly non-existent.
