Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is advocating for vaccination in response to a measles outbreak in Texas. In an opinion editorial, Kennedy stated he is “deeply concerned” about the situation, noting 146 confirmed cases in Texas’s South Plains region since January, along with 24 cases across other states. A child’s death was reported, the first from measles in over a decade.

Kennedy said he spoke with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and health officials to offer federal support and also reached out to the deceased child’s family. He urged parents to consult healthcare providers about the MMR vaccine, emphasizing its role in individual and community immunity.

The CDC reports over 94% of Texas kindergarteners are vaccinated. Measles symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and rash. Kennedy noted that the CDC now recommends Vitamin A as treatment and promoted nutrition as a key factor in disease prevention.
