Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an antivaccine advocate and former independent presidential candidate, revealed that former President Donald Trump has asked him to help “drain the swamp” by leading efforts to remove corrupt influences from major public health agencies if Trump wins the 2024 election. Speaking to Tucker Carlson, Kennedy named agencies like the CDC, FDA, and NIH as potential targets for reform.
Kennedy previously discussed vaccine-related conspiracy theories with Trump, and last month said Trump had asked him to serve on his transition team if he secures a second term. Trump campaign officials called these discussions “premature,” with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stating that Trump will select the best team to reverse what she described as damage caused by Vice President Kamala Harris’s administration.
Concerns have been raised within Democratic and public health circles over Kennedy potentially being named Health and Human Services secretary, though Trump has not confirmed any specific role for him.
