Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President Trump’s nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, told senators he will divest his financial interest in a lawsuit against pharmaceutical giant Merck over its HPV vaccine.
In a written response to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Kennedy said he is amending his ethics agreement to assign his stake to his adult son, ensuring he won’t profit if confirmed. This follows concerns from Senate Democrats over his financial ties to lawsuits against vaccine manufacturers.
Kennedy previously stated he would keep 10% of legal fees from cases he referred to Wisner Baum, a personal injury firm, raising conflict of interest concerns. Warren argued Kennedy could influence vaccine policy for financial gain, calling for a delay in his nomination vote until his ethics agreement is fully reviewed.
Kennedy has earned about $2.5 million from Wisner Baum since 2022, according to public records.
