Republicans are intensifying efforts in Pennsylvania’s Senate recount between incumbent Sen. Bob Casey (D) and GOP challenger David McCormick. The RNC has launched numerous lawsuits and deployed attorneys statewide to ensure only “legal votes” are counted. RNC Chairman Michael Whatley vowed to fight until McCormick is seated.
McCormick declared victory after the Associated Press and others called the race for him. With 48.9% to Casey’s 48.53%, the margin triggered a recount. Casey, refusing to concede, claims uncounted votes could change the outcome.
Controversially, four counties are counting undated or misdated mail-in ballots, defying a state Supreme Court ruling. Bucks County officials defended the move, calling the date requirement unnecessary, while the RNC condemned it as undermining election integrity.
FairVote reports recounts rarely reverse election outcomes, citing just three reversals since 2000, all with margins under 0.06%. Pennsylvania counties must complete the recount by Nov. 26, with results due Nov. 27.
