Following Tuesday’s debate, Republicans have criticized the media for perceived bias, claiming it unfairly targeted former President Donald Trump. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and other Trump allies argued that the moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis of ABC News, engaged in biased fact-checking against Trump while letting Vice President Kamala Harris’s statements go unchallenged.
David Bossie, a Trump adviser, accused the moderators of acting as “agents of the Harris campaign,” and Tim Murtaugh, former Trump communications director, criticized the live fact-checking directed only at Trump. Trump himself echoed these sentiments, alleging unfair treatment on Truth Social and arguing that the debate was skewed against him.
In contrast, the debate with President Joe Biden in June had no fact-checking, which Trump had praised. Despite the criticisms, some journalists and pollsters commended the moderators for their comprehensive approach. Debate watch parties in New York and Florida expressed discontent over what they perceived as biased questioning and insufficient focus on Trump’s vision for the future.
