Kandiss Taylor, Republican chair of Georgia’s 1st congressional district, sparked controversy on her “Jesus, Guns, & Babies” show by stating that only Christians should serve in government. During the August 17 episode, Taylor claimed that the U.S. Constitution is rooted in the Bible and that the church should have authority over the state. She dismissed the notion of religious freedom for non-Christians, asserting, “Freedom of religion is there for us to worship Jesus.”

Taylor, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2022 Georgia Republican gubernatorial primary, argued that America was founded on Christian principles and should be governed exclusively by Christians. “We shouldn’t be electing anyone in government…who isn’t Christian,” she stated, emphasizing that this is how she believes the nation can be “taken back.”

Taylor’s remarks drew attention after being shared by Right Wing Watch on X, formerly Twitter, which Taylor later reposted, affirming, “I said what I said.”
