At a Turning Point Action conference, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) pledged to imprison Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, for his role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Greene declared, “Dr. Anthony Fauci should be tried for crimes against humanity,” sparking chants of “lock him up” from the crowd. She assured, “If I have anything to do with it, I will lock him up. He belongs in prison.” Greene also criticized President Biden and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), inaccurately recalling events surrounding the Capitol’s military presence. In reality, the National Guard was deployed under the Trump administration’s direction to secure the Capitol after the January 6 insurrection, supported by bipartisan congressional leaders.

Greene, who has faced accusations of aiding insurrectionists, also misrepresented Biden’s actions regarding mask mandates. Fauci, often targeted by conservatives for his COVID-19 policies, recently faced a contentious hearing where Greene refused to acknowledge him as a doctor and called for his imprisonment. Fauci, set to release his book “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not” on June 18, recounts his tumultuous relationship with Trump and his career experiences.
