Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was reprimanded by Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), chair of the House Oversight and Accountability Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, for refusing to recognize Anthony Fauci as a doctor during questioning.

Fauci, who led the administration’s COVID-19 response, testified before the GOP-led committee for the first time since retiring. Greene referred to him as “Mr. Fauci” instead of “Dr. Fauci,” saying, “Do you think that’s appropriate? Do the American people deserve to be abused like that, Mr. Fauci?” She questioned him on pandemic measures such as mask mandates for children and social distancing guidelines.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) objected, asking, “Are we allowed to deny that a doctor is a doctor just because we don’t want him to be a doctor?” Greene responded, “Yes, because in my time, that man does not deserve to have a license.”

Wenstrup intervened, instructing Greene to recognize Fauci as a doctor. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) also criticized Greene, calling her refusal “unacceptable” and a personal attack on Fauci’s character.

Greene concluded by calling for Fauci’s prosecution for “crimes against humanity,” stating, “You belong in prison, Dr. Fauci,” without allowing him to respond.
