Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is facing a censure resolution introduced by Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) after referring to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as “Gov. Hot Wheels” during a recent Human Rights Campaign banquet. Abbott uses a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury.
Weber called the comment “vile” and “discriminatory,” saying it disrespected Abbott’s resilience and was unbefitting of a U.S. lawmaker. His resolution, obtained by the Washington Examiner, also cites Crockett’s previous remarks during a 2024 House hearing, including her viral “bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch-body” jab at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
During the banquet, Crockett added that Abbott is a “hot a** mess,” a phrase she later said referred to his migrant relocation policies—not his disability. In a follow-up post on X, she denied mocking his condition and accused Republicans of hypocrisy for defending former President Trump, who has himself been criticized for mocking disabled individuals.
Crockett argued the backlash was a distraction, saying, “My focus is on the governor’s terrible policies, not his condition.”
