Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) announced his campaign to replace Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) as the House Judiciary Committee’s ranking member, signaling a push among House Democrats for younger leadership to challenge Republican agendas.
Raskin, 61, previously dismissed running but reversed course after encouragement from colleagues. In a letter to fellow Democrats, he emphasized the urgency of countering the “MAGA movement” and defending constitutional democracy, stating, “We dare not fail.”
Nadler, 77, has led the Judiciary Committee since 2019, but Raskin’s bid reflects broader debates within the party over leadership changes to address current political challenges.
