Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has intensified her critique of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for what she perceives as his inadequate stance on border security. Greene’s disapproval comes in the wake of Johnson’s support for a substantial government funding deal with President Biden, which, according to Greene, falls short on implementing the stricter border security measures demanded by many conservatives.

Greene’s recent statements on X (formerly known as Twitter) accuse Johnson of prioritizing Ukraine’s defense funding over the U.S. border’s security, reflecting her broader dissatisfaction with his leadership on border policies. She has even threatened to push for Johnson’s removal from his Speaker position if her demands are not met, particularly regarding the upcoming debate on military funding for Ukraine.

Despite Greene’s vocal opposition, Johnson has defended the necessity of compromise in governance, especially given the slim majority in the House. He acknowledges the imperfections in the legislation but emphasizes the realities of negotiating in a divided political landscape.

Johnson’s approach to upcoming debates, including those on Ukraine aid and border security, remains a point of contention. While he has expressed a desire to incorporate border security measures into the discussions, the feasibility of such actions, given Democratic opposition, is uncertain.
