The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, postponed a scheduled book signing with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro on Wednesday following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk earlier that day at Utah Valley University.
“The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is saddened to hear of events that took place today at Utah Valley University. Our prayers are with Charlie Kirk’s family and friends. As a mark of respect, we are cancelling our program and book signing with Ben Shapiro this evening,” the institution said in a statement, adding that a new date would be announced soon.
Shapiro mourned Kirk in a lengthy post on X, describing himself as “utterly stunned and heartbroken.” He recalled meeting Kirk as a teenager and predicting his future in Republican politics. “Charlie became even bigger and more important than that,” Shapiro wrote, praising Kirk as a “principled man” who stood by his values and built “the single most important conservative political organization in America.”
Kirk, 31, co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and became a prominent ally of Donald Trump. He was fatally shot in the neck while addressing students Wednesday. Authorities confirmed the FBI has a person of interest in custody. Trump announced Kirk’s death on social media and ordered flags lowered to half-staff through Sunday.
