WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, is demanding answers from the Justice Department after what he called the Trump administration’s “inexplicable” decision to end a criminal investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged co-conspirators.

In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Raskin accused the DOJ and FBI of a “shameful and gigantic cover-up,” alleging they shut down a years-long probe that had gathered testimony from nearly 50 women identifying at least 20 alleged accomplices. Raskin said prosecutors in the Southern District of New York were investigating until early 2025, when the case was transferred to DOJ headquarters and “abruptly ceased.”

The Justice Department concluded in July that no further charges were warranted, stating investigators found no evidence supporting claims of a secret client list or other uncharged individuals. Raskin called that conclusion “deeply disturbing,” arguing that survivors provided detailed information that was ignored.

DOJ spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre responded by blaming the ongoing government shutdown for delays in Congressional correspondence, noting that 33,000 pages of material have already been shared with House investigators.
