Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) floated Elon Musk as a potential Speaker of the House, highlighting the billionaire’s political influence and disruptive potential. The suggestion follows Musk’s role in opposing a bipartisan short-term spending bill and comes amid challenges to Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) leadership.

Paul posted on X, “Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk,” calling it a move that would shock the political establishment. While the Constitution does not require the Speaker to be a member of the House, the role has always been filled by a representative.

Musk has become a prominent figure in politics and a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump. Trump, however, expressed confidence in Johnson’s ability to retain his position, urging him to act decisively and outmaneuver Democrats in upcoming spending negotiations.

Paul’s suggestion aligns with his long-standing advocacy for cutting government spending, though he holds no vote in the House’s January Speaker election.
